Immigration to Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island has worker and graduate pathways through the PEI PNP, and it also uses the Atlantic Immigration Program. PEI is small, so invitation space is limited. Current priority is strongest for healthcare, trades, and childcare, especially around Charlottetown and other main communities.

Where Prince Edward Island is actually hiring
The sectors that drive Prince Edward Island's immigrant recruitment — and the occupations consistently in demand.
Healthcare (priority sector)
PEI explicitly prioritizes healthcare invitations — Health PEI runs province-wide recruitment, and the PEI PNP Skilled Workers, International Graduates, and Critical Workers streams all surface healthcare offers preferentially. The 2024-2025 shift toward priority-sector intake favours nurses, allied health professionals, and personal support workers.
Skilled trades (priority sector)
Construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and food-processing trades are in active demand. The Critical Workers stream specifically targets TEER 4/5 trade-support occupations alongside skilled tradespeople — a meaningful pathway for trades workers who don't fit federal Skilled Trades thresholds.
Childcare (priority sector)
Early childhood education is one of the three explicitly named priority sectors, driven by PEI's expansion of $10/day childcare commitments. The PEI International Graduates stream nominates ECE-credential holders consistently.
Trucking (sector-specific gate)
Long-haul trucking (NOC 73300) has its own sector gate under the Critical Workers stream — 12 months of long-haul experience plus an eligible PEI trucking employer required. This is unusual; most provinces fold trucking into general skilled-worker streams.
Prince Edward Island immigration — questions
How many PEI PNP streams are there?+
Five worker / graduate streams: Skilled Workers Outside Canada (TEER 0–3 from abroad), Skilled Workers in PEI (workers already on PEI work permits), Critical Workers (TEER 4–5 with 6 months PEI employment), PEI Express Entry (federal EE candidates with PEI offers), and International Graduates (PEI institution grads with PGWPs). Plus business / entrepreneur streams we don't cover here.
Why is PEI invitation competition tight?+
PEI has the smallest annual nomination quota of any Canadian PNP — under 2,000 nominations per year. Combined with the current intake prioritization for healthcare, trades, and childcare, sales/service-sector applicants typically don't receive invitations even with strong profiles. Profile match to a priority sector matters as much as score.
Do I need to live in PEI before applying?+
Depends on the stream. Skilled Workers Outside Canada lets you apply from abroad. Skilled Workers in PEI requires you to already be working in PEI on a work permit. Critical Workers requires 6+ months of full-time work with a PEI employer. International Graduates requires graduation from a PEI institution. PEI Express Entry is the most flexible — federal EE alignment lets you apply from anywhere.
