From Bangladesh

Canadian immigration from Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a fast-growing source country for Canadian PR, with strong representation in IT, engineering, and increasingly healthcare. Bangladeshi applicants typically have competitive education profiles (master's level common) but language testing and document authentication add meaningful time to the timeline. Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet origin profiles dominate invited PR cohorts.

What Bangladeshi applicants specifically need

Beyond the standard Canadian immigration documents, these are the country-specific steps that matter coming from Bangladesh.

ECA via WES

Bangladeshi institutions send transcripts directly to WES. Processing typically 10-14 weeks. BUET, DU, BRAC, NSU, and others have established WES workflows. Older village-level documents may need re-issue.

Document authentication

Bangladeshi documents need attestation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for international use. Bangladesh is not a Hague Apostille signatory — authentication chain is longer than for European countries.

Bangladeshi PCC

Issued by the Bangladesh Police. Online application available since 2019 — much faster than the older paper-based process. Allow 3-6 weeks.

Language as the main CRS hurdle

Bangladeshi applicants typically need structured IELTS prep to reach CLB 9. English-medium higher education is common in tech and engineering programs but not universal. Aim for CLB 9 listening/reading to maximise CRS.

Immigration from Bangladesh — questions

How long does it take to immigrate to Canada from Bangladesh?+

Add three parts: document and language preparation (ECA processing is 10-14 weeks, and language preparation takes 6-12 months for many applicants to reach CLB 9), your wait in the pool for an invitation (depends on your score), and IRCC's application step (currently about 7 months for Express Entry).

Are BUET / DU degrees recognised in Canada?+

Yes, after WES ECA. BUET engineering degrees and DU master's programs typically assess at Canadian bachelor's / master's equivalent. For practising engineering, provincial P.Eng. licensure is the separate professional step.
