Immigration to Manitoba
Manitoba has one of Canada's oldest Provincial Nominee Programs. The MPNP often favours people with a Manitoba connection, such as family, past study, past work, or a job in the province. Winnipeg is the main job centre, but Brandon, Steinbach, and rural communities also recruit workers.

Where Manitoba is actually hiring
The sectors that drive Manitoba's immigrant recruitment — and the occupations consistently in demand.
Agriculture and food processing
Manitoba's economy has deep agricultural roots — Maple Leaf Foods, HyLife, Richardson, and many smaller agri-food businesses recruit foreign workers consistently. The Farm Investor Pathway exists for farm operators, while skilled trades and processing roles flow through the standard Skilled Worker pathways.
Healthcare (chronic shortage)
Like every Canadian province, Manitoba has nurse and allied-health shortages. CRNM (College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba) regulates RNs, and Manitoba runs international recruitment campaigns for healthcare workers — the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway is the typical route after a credential review and job offer.
Tech (Winnipeg)
Winnipeg's tech sector is smaller than Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver but growing — fintech (Bold Commerce), aerospace (Magellan, StandardAero), and IT services. The Career Employment Pathway and Skilled Worker streams nominate tech professionals, particularly those who studied in Manitoba.
Manufacturing and aerospace
Manitoba is Canada's third-largest aerospace cluster after Quebec and Ontario — Boeing, Magellan, and Rolls-Royce all operate facilities in Winnipeg. Manufacturing of buses (New Flyer), agricultural equipment, and pharmaceutical products drives demand for engineers and skilled trades.
Manitoba immigration — questions
How many MPNP streams are there?+
Four worker / graduate pathways in scope here: Skilled Worker in Manitoba (SWM), Skilled Worker Overseas (SWO), Career Employment Pathway (CEP), and Graduate Internship Pathway. Manitoba also has Entrepreneur and Farm Investor business-stream pathways, plus the International Student Entrepreneur Pilot — these target different audiences (business investors, farmers) and aren't covered here.
Do I need a Manitoba connection to apply to the MPNP?+
For Skilled Worker Overseas, yes — you need either a Manitoba Supporter (close relative or friend who's a Canadian citizen or PR living in MB), prior MB work or study experience, or a Strategic Recruitment Initiative invitation. For Skilled Worker in Manitoba you don't need a connection — you need to already be working in Manitoba on a work permit. Graduate pathways require completion of a Manitoba post-secondary program.
What's the MPNP 100-point grid?+
Manitoba's own scoring system for the Skilled Worker Overseas stream — different from federal CRS. Five factors: language (max 25), age (max 10), work experience (max 15), education (max 25), adaptability (max 25). Minimum 60 of 100 points to be eligible. The other MPNP pathways (SWM, CEP, Graduate Internship) don't use this grid — they have specific eligibility gates instead.
