Skilled Worker in Manitoba (SWM) Pathway

Page last edited: May 12, 2026·Official source

What is this program?

The MPNP Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway is the most common Manitoba PNP route — for foreign workers already in Manitoba on a temporary work permit who have a long-term Manitoba job offer. The defining gate is being already employed in Manitoba (6 months continuously, or 1 year for out-of-province graduates) and having an employer willing to sponsor your nomination. No formal points grid like SWO; Manitoba assesses your overall fit to economically establish in the province.

Who is it for?

  • You are currently working in Manitoba on a valid LMIA-based or LMIA-exempt work permit
  • You have a permanent full-time job offer from your Manitoba employer (≥30 hr/wk)
  • You've been in your Manitoba job for 6+ months (standard) or 1+ year (out-of-province graduates)
  • Your employer is an incorporated/registered Manitoba business
  • You intend to live in Manitoba permanently

What does it lead to?

A provincial nomination from Manitoba; you then file a separate federal PR application. Manitoba's own step currently runs more than 6 months (its official notice); the federal step after nomination currently takes about 13 months (IRCC's estimate). MPNP application fee $500.

Primary requirements

  • Valid Canadian work permit (LMIA-based or LMIA-exempt) at time of application.
  • 6+ months of continuous full-time employment with your current Manitoba employer (1+ year if you graduated outside Manitoba).
  • Permanent full-time long-term job offer from a Manitoba employer (≥30 hr/wk, no end date).
  • Employer must be incorporated/registered with an established Manitoba place of business.
  • You meet all qualifications for the position (training, education, required licensure).
  • Sufficient official language proficiency to fulfill job duties (no fixed CLB but typically CLB 4+).
  • Your connection to Manitoba via employment is stronger than ties to any other province.
  • Settlement Plan submitted with the application.

  • Valid passport
  • Current Canadian work permit
  • Permanent full-time job offer letter from your Manitoba employer
  • Employer confirmation of incorporation/registration in Manitoba
  • Pay stubs and T4 covering the qualifying employment period
  • Reference letters from previous employers
  • Language test results (within 2 years)
  • ECA for foreign post-secondary credentials
