Canadian immigration for electricians (except industrial and power system)
NOC 72200 covers construction and maintenance electricians. It is TEER 2 and can fit Federal Skilled Trades and some PNPs. Red Seal or provincial trade certification can make the path stronger, but immigration and trade licensing are separate steps.

Federal Skilled Trades Program
Primary path for foreign-trained electricians. Requires Canadian Red Seal cert OR 2+ years of trade work + qualifying NOC.
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Workable backup if FSTP fits poorly. TEER 2 + bachelor's-equivalent vocational training + CLB 7 can still produce a competitive CRS.

Beyond the standard immigration documents, these are the occupation-specific pieces that matter for electricians.
Red Seal certification
The interprovincial Red Seal exam is the standard credential. Required for FSTP and recognised by every provincial trade authority — start the Red Seal challenge process early.
Provincial licensure
Practicing as an electrician in Canada requires provincial certification on top of Red Seal — separate from immigration. Each province has its own apprenticeship/journeyperson framework.
Language
FSTP's CLB 5 speaking/listening + CLB 4 reading/writing is the lowest bar of any federal economic program. Realistic for tradespeople whose English is conversational but not formal.
Electrician immigration questions
Are electricians in demand in Canada?+
Yes — chronic shortage across most provinces, driven by residential construction and infrastructure. Multiple PNPs nominate electricians directly without requiring federal Express Entry.
Do I need Red Seal before immigrating?+
Not strictly — FSTP accepts 2+ years of qualifying foreign trade work as an alternative. But Red Seal certification makes you immediately employable on arrival, so most foreign electricians pursue it before or shortly after landing.
