What is the CRS?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points system used for Express Entry. The maximum score is 1,200 points. A higher score usually means a better chance of getting invited to apply for permanent residence.

CRS has four parts. Each part adds points for something different.

  1. 1 · Core Human Capital
    Up to 500 points

Your age, education, English or French test scores, and Canadian work. Most people get most of their points here.

  2. 2 · Spouse or Common-Law Partner
    Up to 40 points

If your spouse is moving with you, their education, language, and Canadian work can add points. If you are single, this part does not apply.

  3. 3 · Skill Transferability
    Up to 100 points

Bonus points when strong parts of your profile work together. For example: good language scores plus education, or foreign work plus Canadian work.

  4. 4 · Additional Factors
    Up to 600 points

Extra points for things like a provincial nomination, French, Canadian study, or a sibling in Canada.

How is this different from the IRCC calculator?

IRCC has its own CRS calculator on canada.ca. It gives you a score. Our tool gives you a CRS score too. It also shows which Express Entry program may fit you, and which other programs may be worth checking.

What's a competitive CRS score?

Recent regular Express Entry draws have invited candidates with scores in the 480 to 540 range. Category-based draws — healthcare workers, STEM occupations, trades, French-speaking candidates — sometimes invite from the 380 to 480 range because the pool is smaller.

The right target for you depends on your profile and which program you're aiming at. Our free check shows where your score lands and what the closest realistic score lift looks like for your specific situation (better language test, additional Canadian work experience, provincial nomination, and so on).

Common CRS questions

How accurate is this CRS calculator?+

It uses IRCC's official CRS formula. Your score is an estimate based on what you tell us. IRCC may give a different score later if your documents show different dates, test scores, or work history.

What's a competitive CRS score?+

Recent regular Express Entry draws have invited candidates with CRS scores between 480 and 540. Category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, trades, French speakers) sometimes invite candidates with scores in the 380–480 range. The right target depends on which program you're aiming for.

Does my CRS score expire?+

Express Entry profiles are valid for 12 months after submission. If you don't receive an Invitation to Apply within that window, you need to resubmit. Your language test results separately have a two-year validity, and your ECA report is valid for five years.

What's the difference between CRS and the 67-point grid?+

They do different jobs. The 67-point grid checks if you can enter Express Entry through Federal Skilled Worker. CRS ranks you after you are in the pool. First you need to get in. Then you need a strong CRS score to be invited.

Can I improve my CRS score?+

Yes. The four biggest levers are: a stronger language test result (CLB 9 vs CLB 7 is worth a lot), a provincial nomination (worth 600 points), an additional year of skilled work experience, or a job offer in an eligible occupation. Our personalized report shows you which lever applies to your profile.
