Tourism and Hospitality Stream

What is this program?

The Alberta Tourism and Hospitality Stream is a sector-specific AAIP pathway for foreign workers already in Alberta in tourism, food service, or hospitality occupations. The defining requirement is that your employer must be a member of a recognised Alberta tourism/hospitality sector association — this is the gate that distinguishes this stream from the broader Opportunity Stream and unlocks pathways for some TEER 4/5 occupations that wouldn't otherwise qualify.

Who is it for?

You are currently working full-time in Alberta in a tourism / hospitality occupation
Your current employer is a member of an eligible Alberta sector association
You have a permanent, full-time job offer from that same employer (≥30 hr/wk)
Your occupation is on the stream's eligible-NOC list
You meet the minimum language, education, and work-experience thresholds

What does it lead to?

A provincial nomination from Alberta, then permanent residence via a separate federal application. The federal step after nomination currently takes about 13 months (IRCC's estimate); Alberta's own step comes first. The unique value of this stream is access for TEER 4/5 hospitality workers who wouldn't qualify for the federal economic programs alone.

Primary requirements

Currently working full-time in Alberta in a tourism/hospitality occupation on a valid work permit (LMIA-based).
Permanent, full-time job offer from the SAME Alberta employer (single approved employer rule).
Employer must be a member of an eligible Alberta sector association (Hotel Association of Canada AB region, Tourism Industry Association of Alberta, Restaurants Canada, etc.) — confirm with the employer.
Employer's primary business activities must fall under an eligible WCB industry classification.
Minimum CLB 4 language (some occupations require higher).
Minimum 6 months of paid work experience in the tourism/hospitality occupation.

Employer WCB coverage / industry classification confirmation
Language test results within the last 2 years (CLB 4+)
Pay stubs and T4 confirming Alberta employment with the offering employer
