Alberta Advantage Immigration Program – Rural Renewal Stream
What is this program?
The Alberta Rural Renewal Stream is the AAIP's pathway for foreign workers willing to live and work in a designated rural Alberta community. The defining gate isn't a federal CRS or a generic Alberta job offer — it's an Endorsement of Candidate letter from a participating rural community's Economic Development Officer (EDO). Communities designate themselves and select candidates based on their local labour needs. Without the endorsement, no AAIP application.
Who is it for?
- You have a permanent full-time job offer in a designated Alberta rural community
- You have (or can secure) an Endorsement of Candidate letter from that community's EDO
- You intend to live and work in the designated community permanently
- Your occupation is on the eligible-NOC list (TEER restrictions apply if you live outside Alberta)
What does it lead to?
A provincial nomination from Alberta tied to the rural community that endorsed you. The federal step after nomination currently takes about 13 months (IRCC's estimate); Alberta's own step comes first — and securing the community endorsement is often the longest single step, since communities have their own intake schedules and may take months to evaluate candidates.
Primary requirements
- Valid Endorsement of Candidate letter from a designated rural community's EDO (headline gate).
- Permanent full-time job offer from an employer in that designated community (≥30 hr/wk).
- Job offer in an eligible NOC occupation (specific ineligible list applies).
- TEER restriction: applicants residing outside Alberta must have a TEER 0/1/2/3 occupation. TEER 4/5 occupations are only eligible if you're already in Alberta on a valid work permit.
- Intent to live in the designated rural community (not just Alberta generally).
- Valid Canadian work permit (for foreign nationals already in Canada).
- Not a refugee claimant in Canada.

- Current Canadian work permit (if already in Canada)
- Language test results within the last 2 years
- Reference letters covering required work experience
- ECA for foreign credentials
